CDC Prevention Research Centers Program
CDC's Prevention Research Center (PRCs) network of academic researchers, public health agencies, and community members conducts applied research in disease prevention and control. Read more about the PRC program.
Each of the PRCs focuses on a particular theme, such as a health problem of great concern, a specific population, or a defined geographic area. All the PRCs have two goals in common:
- Identification of solutions for vulnerable populations
- formation of partnerships between health departments, academic units, health care organizations and community groups
Our mission is to. . .
- Better understand the determinants of healthy aging in older adult populations
- Identify interventions that promote healthy aging
- Assist in the translation of effective healthy aging interventions into sustainable community-based programs throughout the nation
Healthy Aging
The development and maintenance of optimal physical, mental, and social well-being and function in older adults.
For healthy aging, we need safe physical environments and communities that support attitudes and behaviors leading to health and well-being, and effective use of health services and community programs to prevent or minimize the effects of acute and chronic disease.
